"There's safety in numbers, they say 'Cause the figures never lie" - Computer Games by Mi-Sex

...but then again,

"The figures don't lie, but liars do figure"

And let's not get started on "Correlation" vs. "Causation".

We are swimming in more data than ever before. The difference now is that AI tech is finally giving us a realistic way to dig through the mountain and find the gold.

  • Wearables are producing biodata that may help pre-empt migraines before they hit based on your body signals.
  • David Fajgenbaum used data to repurpose existing drugs to treat his own rare disease, then founded Every Cure to use AI to help others do the same.
  • The American "Veery" predicts intense hurricane seasons and cuts its breeding season short, migrating south before humans have even spotted the signals.....but we will one day as we use AI and ML technologies to process the tsunami of data that is humanly impossible to comprehend.
  • Harrison.ai is using AI to improve embryo selection in IVF by detecting patterns that humans simply cannot see on their own.

That's the fascinating bit.

Data has always had the answers hiding in plain sight.

The problem has been access, cost, complexity, interpretation, and sheer volume.

Now we're getting closer to solving those problems and as we do, it changes everything.

  • Health Plans will be bespoke rather than one size fits all medication pathways shaped by profitability.
  • Environmental signals become clearer.
  • Correlation and causation become easier to separate.
  • Insights become more accessible, discoverable, and useful.

But while we're waiting for the big, world-changing version of that future, here is a bit of light fun I have put together with readily available public datasets across Australia.

It's called One With The Lot, a growing collection of dashboards created from readily available datasets.

  • Explore Australia's most problematic pokie statistics (spoiler alert: Login City you might have a gambling problem)
  • Check out the live(ish) Emergency Department wait times before your next visit to the ED
  • Find the most popular baby names in Aus
  • Go find a shipwreck, outdoor art, and monuments near you
  • ...or find out for yourself just how dangerous sharks are(n't) in Australian waters.

And that shark data is a good reminder, just because Queensland has had more recorded shark attacks than other states, that does not automatically mean Queensland is the most dangerous shark state. Maybe QLD are more prolific record takers, have more swimmers, or the nearby waters have been overfished and the sharks are coming closer to shore for food?

That's the point.

The first answer is rarely the whole answer.

Get more data, dig deeper, question the obvious conclusion, and use the tech to better understand our world and ourselves.

Stay tuned for more data insights weekly!

100% Vibe Coded

This project was an experiment in to how far we can take vibe coding.

From Discovery to build, this was 100% vibe coded.

Having said that, this still took a significant amount of direction, validation, and correction.........but nowhere near the effort to do it from scratch.

We've come a long way in 12 months and it's exciting to see where will be this time next year.
